The Paradise Restoration Team

Paradise Restoration Foundation is not a conventional conservation group or NGO that seeks to protect existing reserves or ring-fence the last species of their kind. We actively plan & execute the restoration of agroforestry ecosystems across a 15-30 year spectrum, in large landscapes. Parts of this process include landscaping & terracing; water management; building organic houses from wood, bamboo, stone, clay & palm leaves for people living in the forest; natural regeneration.

We believe that forest have a central role for our continuous wellbeing, transforming landscapes into beautiful, healthy and sustainable environments.

Dr. Bernd Neugebauer

Initiator & Forestry Expert

Bernd, known in Mexico as Bernardo del Monte, came to Yucatán in 1978 to analyze the destruction of rainforests. He discovered the alternative was well-known by the Maya, yet not understood by Westerners. He therefore learnt and studied Mayan agriculture, pioneered in rain forest restoration, developed organic farming techniques and reconstructs a pre-hispanic 2000 year old Mayan village. Bernd’s vita includes entrepreneurial experience running forestry nurseries, seed companies, farms, cooperatives and training institutions. Teaching activities at several universities dealt with the integration of agriculture, forestry and economic concepts. Bernd lives on a small permaculture rainforest farm established to become the blueprint for future sustainable development.
